FAQ

What is Coaching?

The coaching process increases a person’s awareness of their potential, providing structure, focus, and support thereby accelerating the individual’s progress to achieving their professional or personal goals. It is a dynamic process where objectives are explored in tandem with available resources, obstacles and action plans.

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), is the most evidence-based form of psychotherapy to improve mental health and consequently physical well-being. It is a short term, goal orientated therapy, typically made up of 6-18 sessions and with the goal of developing flexible coping strategies, with a problem-solving focus. CBT is supported by a considerable body of authoritative research. Indeed, studies consistently show that CBT creates measurable physical changes in the brain with neuro-imaging, and demonstrates that CBT modifies neural pathways involved in the regulation of negative emotions.

What is Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy?

Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy is a branch of clinical hypnotherapy which uses cognitive and behavioural concepts and techniques from CBT, providing significantly improved outcomes than with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy alone.

What is Clinical Hypnotherapy?

There are many myths and misconceptions about hypnotherapy, normally associated with stage hypnosis such as being in a trance or state of sleep. Clinical Hypnotherapy can be defined as focused attention training and in a therapy setting, it is a safe and highly effective intervention. Responding to hypnosis is a skill that an individual can be trained to do. The brain is like any other muscle in the body and is trainable. After the initial learning curve, an individual will be able to increase their level of responsiveness to positive suggestions, overcoming fears, negative self-beliefs and dysfunctional behavioural patterns. Results can often be seen after the first few sessions but hypnotherapy is a process and not a magical solution that requires trust, motivation and a collaborative process.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

In general, yes.  Since clinical hypnosis is simply focused attention skill training, it requires active collaboration from the person being hypnotised and an implicit level of trust with the person facilitating the hypnotherapy. During hypnosis, the person is always fully conscious of what is happening and has full control of his level of participation. There are circumstances however where an individual may not be suitable for hypnotherapy such as people suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Psychosis or heavily dependent on drugs including alcohol.

What is Acceptance & Commitment Therapy?

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an action-oriented approach that stems from CBT. Clients learn to stop avoiding, denying and struggling with their inner emotions and instead accept that these deeper feelings are normal responses to certain situations that should not prevent them from moving forward in their lives. Moreover, ACT teaches skills to help individuals live and behave in ways consistent with their personal Values while developing psychological flexibility.

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness techniques help individuals to detach themselves from their feelings and critical thoughts through a process of cognitive defusion, self-awareness and self-acceptance. It is an approach that cultivates psychological flexibility and controlled attention.
